Similar to starting a baseball team, starting a business is similar. Fire up (Spring preparing) is the point at which you are investigating as needs be, settling on a business name, drafting prerequisites, setting up your business, settling on what structure your business will take (sole ownership, partnership, LLC).

Preparing for the season (your opening day), you are putting together all of your business’s (team) components.

When spring preparing is finished, and the season starts (your business is open) you begin making your go around the bases. The hardest part is getting to first base—getting your first client, making your first sale, and conducting your first consultation. The players who made up your support staff guide you to second base. Moving around the bases comprises every one of the means, obstacles, hindrances, but you need to consider day to day business grind. This is essential for maintaining a business ( and what’s really going on with the sport of baseball). Having courses of action to manage specific possibilities.

Being aware of the capabilities of your staff. There will be single-hit players on some of your staff. Doubles will be hit by others. While others will hit home runs, some will hit or make the triple play. Your employees, like players, look up to you as the owner of the business and learn from you. They will look to you for direction (signals) and guidance on how to respond.

The season (your most memorable year in business) offers you the chance to survey your staff (your group) to learn where they work best. Do you require any modifications (changing the lineup)? There is no doubt that some will perform better than others. As the leader (coach), you decide who should be in which position, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and how to use them to their fullest potential. Ensure that staff (team) meetings are scheduled.

By the end of the season, you’ll know how successful your team and business are. Will you make the playoffs or are you just one of many new businesses in your area? Differentiate your business, find your niche, and establish yourself in your community.

Your company has succeeded if it advances to the playoffs or wins the championship. Your dues were paid. It’s a long-term commitment for you. You are acknowledged by the other teams as a member of the business community.

You are now prepared to play each season. You use spring preparing of every year to understand different groups (figure out what your business rivalry is doing) and make any changes you really want to keep your business (group) in the main part of things for the approaching year.

You can hear, if you really pay attention, “Let’s play ball!”
