Strategic Expansion into Software and Services

Moving beyond its hardware manufacturing roots, LG Electronics is making a concerted push to transform into a software and services-led company. This strategic pivot is central to its vision of creating new, recurring revenue streams and enhancing customer loyalty.

A key initiative is the expansion of its LG ThinQ smart home platform. The company is aggressively integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and open API connections to allow third-party devices and developers to build upon its ecosystem. The goal is to make ThinQ the central hub for managing not just LG products, but an entire connected home.

Furthermore, LG is investing heavily in its webOS platform, originally developed for smart TVs. It is now licensing this operating system to other TV manufacturers and exploring its application in smart displays, in-vehicle infotainment, and even robotics. This shift from a pure B2C hardware vendor to a B2B2C platform provider represents a significant long-term growth strategy aimed at securing a more stable and high-margin business model.
